739 c Sieger #64A imageSieger #64A, 1930 Pan-American Flight, a highly unusual flown postage due Zeppelin cover, franked with 65c Zeppelin single, block of four of 10c Lindbergh and 5c Violet air posts, all tied by "New York, N.Y./Varick St. Sta./May 7, 1930" duplexes, addressed to Indianapolis but instructions were for the flight from Friedrichshafen to Bahia, Brazil, which it flew with violet American and red German flight cachets and backstamped Rio de Janeiro, however small violet "Postage due $1.55 cents" handstamp with "$1.55" in pencil was applied, whether in Lakehurst or Indianapolis is not known, but 5c and 50c strip of three with Indianapolis pre-cancels were duly affixed, slight edge wear to the cover damaging a few perfs. of the block, otherwise very fine; our observation is that postage due was seldom charged to Zeppelin covers, underfranking more often being overlooked, but where they came up with $1.55 due is anyone's guess, as the cover was only underpaid by 20c (Sieger €375+; Michel #64Ga).
