2652 og MR2b image#MR2b, 1915 1p Scarlet, horizontal pair with and without "War Stamp" overprint, fresh example with right sheet margin as usual, o.g., light h.r. reinforcing the perforations which are intact, very fine; this error occurred when one sheet of 120 was printed with the overprint shifted exactly one stamp to the left producing this error in the right two columns, and putting one column of overprints in the selvage at left, thus only ten examples of this error were originally printed, of these the top gutter strip of twelve is in the Royal Collection, three other strips and four pairs, including this one, are recorded of the remaining nine possible; a desirable and first class rarity of both Fiji and British war tax stamps; 1980 BPA certificate (S.G. #139ab; £5,500). France "Gauthier Freres et Cie" Ship Letter Stamp

2660 O image1856 "Gauthier Freres et Cie" blue private ship letter stamp, used, with "G.F. & Co." manuscript cancel, four clear to full margins, stamp has several defects of little importance considering its enormous rarity; this stamp was issued in 1856 both in red and blue for use on mail carried privately by the Gauthier Freres steamship company from Havre, France to New York or Rio de Janeiro, both colored stamps are very rare, as only seven copies of the red stamp are recorded, however this is one of only two blue stamps known, the other being on a cover front; according to S. Ringstrom and H.E. Tester in their authoritative work The Private Ship Letter Stamps of the World - Part 2 they described the Gauthier Freres stamps as being "among the rarest in the world"; 2003 PF certificate.
