Lot Symbol CatNo. Lot Description CV or Estimate
241 c S.G. #21, 21d S.G. #21, 21d, 1881 "Half-Pence" surcharge on Deep mauve, an impressive franking of nineteen stamps of this value (one stamp missing), including a strip of four, two strips of three and four pairs, in addition two examples of the variety with no hyphen between "Half" and "Penny" are found in one pair and the strip of four, all are tied to front and back of commercial registered cover to England by blue "Grenada/SP 27 82" c.d.s. with index letter "A", two different size straight line "Registered" handstamps, also in blue ink, cover has been opened out for display, some stamps with minor faults including four with light creasing from cover, which evidently had a large enclosure being double rate, nevertheless a rare commercial cover and the collector notes that this is the only cover with franking of only 1/2p Deep mauve stamps that he has seen in over 30 years of collecting (Scott #8). (Image) Est. 1,500-2,000

SOLD for $2,200.00

(Image) Est. 1,000-1,500

SOLD for $1,250.00
Closing..Jun-27, 01:00 PM
243 ogbl S.G. #22a S.G. #22a, 1881 "Two Pence Half-Penny." surcharge on Rose lake, imperforate, impressive bottom sheet-margin block of eight, clear wide margins all around, fresh with bright color, in addition the bottom left stamp shows "Pencf" surcharge variety, position R.8/12, o.g., three left stamps in the bottom row are n.h., tiny scissors cut between stamps at left and minor vertical creasing slightly affecting the variety, extremely fine appearance and a rare imperforate multiple; ex-Pilkington (Scott #9a; $1,700.00+). (Image) £1,800+

SOLD for $2,200.00
Closing..Jun-27, 01:00 PM
244 og S.G. #22b imageS.G. #22b, 1881 "Two Pence Half-Penny." surcharge on Rose lake, wmk. large star, horizontal pair imperforate between, a well centered example of this very rare perforation error, clear bright color, o.g., rounded corner at bottom left, otherwise very fine; this variety is particularly elusive being only the third example to appear on the market in over 30 years (Scott #9b; $2,500.00). (Image) £3,500

SOLD for $3,500.00
Closing..Jun-27, 01:00 PM
245 c S.G. #22 imageS.G. #22, 1881 "Two Pence Half-Penny" surcharge on Rose lake, wmk. large star, an uncancelled single on most interesting inbound 1882 Austrian 2kr Brown on buff postal card, with additional pair and single of 2kr Yellow Fine Beards (Scott #34), all tied by "Graz/18 6 82" c.d.s., St. Thomas transit on the reverse and blue "Grenada/JY 20 82" small c.d.s. with index letter "A" on the front, used either as a receiving postmark or for reposting back to Austria, this is a commercially used card to Alex. Hubbard & Co., it was returned to the sender by the addressee who put the Grenada stamp on it not realizing it was not necessary in order to have it returned, so it was not cancelled, light vertical fold to the card, not affecting stamps or markings, otherwise very fine; while this stamp (which would be very scarce on cover) was not necessary, this Austrian posting and franking is scarce and desirable in its own right and particularly so to Grenada (Scott #9). (Image) Est. 300-400

SOLD for $500.00
Closing..Jun-27, 01:00 PM
246 S S.G. #23s imageS.G. #23s, 1881 "Four Pence" surcharge on Blue, wmk. large star, overprinted "Specimen", bright color, quite well centered though scissors separated clipping a few perforations at bottom, fine and of the greatest rarity; this is the only known example with "Specimen" overprint, from the Perkins, Bacon & Co. archives (Scott #10S) (Image) Est. 1,000-1,500

SOLD for $1,800.00

(Image) Est. 300-400

SOLD for $900.00
Closing..Jun-27, 01:00 PM
248 c S.G. #23 imageS.G. #23, 1881 "Four Pence" surcharge on Blue, wmk. large star, fresh single centered just into the design at right as is normal for these, tied to 1881 folded letter to London by "Grenada/AP 27 81" with index letter "A", additional strike at left, red London Paid c.d.s. below, fresh and very fine: the 4p rate was a result of Grenada joining the UPU on January 1, 1881, this new stamp issued to be used for the that rate was issued in April, making this April 27th usage a very early use of this stamp (Scott #10). (Image) Est. 400-500

SOLD for $325.00
Closing..Jun-27, 01:00 PM
249 c S.G. #23 imageS.G. #23, 1881 "Four Pence" surcharge on Blue, wmk. large star, an unusually well centered single tied to folded cover to London by small blue "Grenada/OC 07 82" c.d.s. with index letter "A", additional clear strike at left, backstamped London, very fine and pretty cover (Scott #10). 252 og S.G. #25 imageS.G. #25, 1881 "Two Pence Half-Penny." surcharge on Claret, wmk. broad-pointed star, a lovely mint example that is exceptionally well centered, this stamp shows clearly an "F" for "E" in "Pence" but does not plate properly for position R.8/12, perhaps the lower bar of "E" just did not print well on this impression, nevertheless a premium mint single in the darker claret shade, extremely fine (Scott #12a; $525.00+). (Image) £400+

SOLD for $550.00
Closing..Jun-27, 01:00 PM

257 c S.G. #26, 31 imageS.G. #26, 31, 1881 "Four Pence" surcharge on Blue, wmk. broad star, and 1883 1p Carmine, both tied to neat cover to London by unusually well struck "D/Mar. 27/83" double circle c.d.s. of the parish post office at Grenville, an even better strike at left, red London backstamp, a very fine cover and of considerable rarity, not only because of the scarce 4p value with broad star watermark, which is much scarcer than the issue with large star watermark, but because of this scarce usage from an outlying post office; the UPU rate instituted in 1881 was only 4p, but for years Grenada had added 1p to letters posted at parish post offices for internal service to St. George's, where all foreign mail departed, this was technically against UPU rules which specified a set rate regardless of where it was posted within the country, interestingly Grenada did not change their policy until 1895, this cover shows a wonderful and rare example of this practice; 1963 BPA certificate (Scott #13, 21). (Image) Est. 3,000-4,000

SOLD for $6,250.00

258 og S.G. #27 imageS.G. #27, 1883 1p Orange revenue with provisional "Postage." overprint, a radiant mint horizontal pair with clear overprints, intense color, full o.g., fresh, a premium pair with fine centering; the only mint multiple that the collector has seen in over 30 years (Scott #16; $520.00+). (Image) £550+

Closing..Jun-27, 01:00 PM
259 c S.G. #27 imageS.G. #27, 1883 1p Orange revenue with provisional "Postage" overprint, bright single centered to the top left, tied along with 1881 "Four Pence" surcharge on Blue, wmk. large star (S.G. #23) to unusually fresh and attractive cover to Hull, England, both stamps tied by "D/Jan. 27 83" double circle c,d.s. of the parish post office at Grenville, a wonderfully clear additional strike below, backstamped, aside from the normal fine centering of 1p Provisional this cover is extremely fine in every respect; an amazingly rare franking illustrating Grenada's addition of 1p to the normal foreign 4p UPU rate, this was technically against UPU regulations but was regularly practiced by Grenada when mail was posted from rural outlying post offices, this is the only known cover using the 1p Orange provisional "Postage" properly during the first five months of 1883, the proper time period for this issue; 1962 RPS certificate (Scott #10, 16). (Image) Est. 3,000-4,000

SOLD for $6,500.00
Closing..Jun-27, 01:00 PM
260 O S.G. #27a imageS.G. #27a, 1883 1p Orange revenue with provisional "Postage." overprint inverted, a lovely used example of this very scarce overprint error, exceptional centering with perforations nearly clear of the design all around, neat portion of "D" cancel of Grenville, extremely fine; an unusually elusive stamp in this premium condition; signed A. Brun and accompanied by 1960 BPA certificate (Scott #16a; $1,000.00). (Image) £1,200

SOLD for $2,100.00
