1431 O RG56 image#RG56, $60.00 Brown, handstamped "Series 1940" in blue, an extraordinarily handsome example of this enormously rare stamp, being one of only five examples known according to our records, virtually perfectly centered within large margins, rich luxuriant color on bright paper, very light and unobtrusive violet oval handstamp cancels, there is a horizontal crease along the top edge of the design that is quite minor and certainly inconsequential considering this stamp's rarity, otherwise extremely fine; remarkably this is the third example of this Silver Tax rarity we have had the pleasure to offer in our auctions, the previous two were both choice sound stamps (ex-Lyons, January 2000 and ex-Floyd, October 2001) and they realized exactly $22,000.00 each, plus the 10% buyer's premium, when they cataloged considerably less than they do now; an exciting opportunity for the serious revenue collector, Silver Tax specialist or for the collector of Lincoln related items who is seeking a highlight for an award-winning exhibit; 1999 PF certificate.
