561 ogngObl   Confederate States massive collection/accumulation of 165 singles and another 195 stamps in multiples from pairs to blocks as large as 20, we note fourteen Postmasters' Provisionals of Charleston, Memphis, Mobile, Nashville, New Orleans and Petersburg, but the vast majority are the general issues of #1-14 complete including an unused and two used examples of the "TEN CENTS" issue (#9) and a used single of 10c Blue with frame lines, each of the other values from #1 to #14 have at least four mint and used with most having many more showing different printings, shades and cancels, 10c Blue (#2) in various shades has two unused and five used singles, the 2c Green (#3) is represented by two mint and five used and there are six unused and used of the 10c Rose (#5), later issues have many more including thirteen blocks of various sizes of #11 including vertical gutter blocks of six and eight, attractive shades of the unissued 1c Orange and Deep orange including a block of four and horizontal pair, some of these later multiples are never hinged, condition is mixed, unused are found both with gum and without, faults of various degrees are found throughout but there are also attractive stamps that are fine-very fine as well and many of nice appearance; in addition to the genuine issues there are 130 unofficial prints of 2c and 10c Jefferson Davis of the 5c Blue design of #6 including multiples, and another over 200 forgeries, facsimiles and fantasy issues; a valuable collection with total Scott catalog value for the genuine of over $30,000.00; well worth examining. 562 c   Confederate States postal history collection of 30 covers, most have general issues but includes a New Orleans Postmaster Provisional #62X4, several stampless covers with "Paid" handstamps and a nice Official cover of the Third Auditor's Office, plus a cover from Libby Prison through Old Point Comfort, some of the better covers with general issues include a #1 on Southern University illustrated cover of Greensborough, Alabama, four covers with 10c Blue (#2) of various shades, others with interesting usages including overpaid drop letters, Georgia Adjutant and Inspector General's Office cover, usages from Florida and Texas , etc., also ten different unused patriotic designs, condition varies with faults present as is usual with this area, but worthwhile material and well worth examining. Under its provisions a patron could send a registered letter or document to one or more parties, the specific contents of which were abstracted or copied in full in a special post office record, the rate was 6 yen, plus 3 yen for each additional copy.
