PROGRESSIVE COMPOSITE DIE ESSAY, with THREE DIFFERENT EVER MORE COMPLETE RENDERINGS OF THE LEAF ISSUE DESIGN printed in black se-tenant (horizontally) on India paper (87 x 36mm), showing the DEVELOPMENT OF THE DESIGN FOR THE THREE CENT DENOMINATION, the middle vignette shows only the central oval portrait surmounted by CANADA POSTAGE, the left one has had the bottom value tablet added and the right one shows the surrounding oval complete, a very fine and UNIQUE SHOWPIECE, the only one in private hands and an absolute 'must-have' for any advanced Leaf Issue collection. PROGRESSIVE COMPOSITE DIE ESSAY, with THREE DIFFERENT INCOMPLETE RENDERINGS OF THE LEAF ISSUE DESIGN printed in black se-tenant (vertically) on India paper (35 x 151mm, showing portions of lathework and engraver's rules from previous unrelated work), showing the DEVELOPMENT OF THE DESIGN FOR THE THREE CENT DENOMINATION, each of the bottom two vignettes with hand-punched reference number 'M173' to the left and showing only the central oval portrait surmounted by CANADA POSTAGE and four Maple Leaves at corners (no background or denomination) but with several minor subtle differences such as the strengthening of the Leaf outlines, etc, the top impression with the denomination and most of the bottom oval added as well as the complete background shading, with hand-punched 'M174', another very fine and UNIQUE SHOWPIECE, once again the only one in private hands and an essential requirement for any advanced Leaf Issue display.
