PRECANCELS
LotNo. Symbol Lot Description Cat. Value
1441 image THE ROBERT H. SELLES EXTENSIVE TOWN AND TYPE PRECANCEL COLLECTION, this amazing collection is organized by states in 50 three ring binders for each state and then contained in four large cartons, then the collection is arranged by alphabetically by towns and then types and hinged on custom precancel pages, and all of it pretty much in Noble order, this incredible collection contains over 18,800 different towns and over 31,400 different types, in addition there are several hundred varieties scattered in the various states and the end of many albums, virtually all are singles but there are some scattered multiples, the overall condition is really very clean but faults are to be expected as is the norm for this area, the collector has noted those stamps which have Noble catalog values of $1 or more and that total catalog value (which pertains to maybe a thousand stamps) is nearly $19,000 which includes 56 different ($25-50), 30 different ($50-100), 11 different ($100-200) and 5 with values in excess of $200 each, given the balance of 30,000 stamps with catalog values in the 25c-$1 range would likely make the total catalog value here in the $25,000 range, we have provided a number of scans of this collection but serious bidders will have a huge advantage by viewing this one, without question this is the most extensive and complete Town and Type collection we have ever offered in our auctions sales over the last 40+ years, dispite the completeness here there is still room for expansion and the collection is set up to facilitate this for the serious bidder, we have a spreadsheet available by state showing the number of towns and types for each state along with the catalog value for each state of those stamps which catalog $1 or more, certainly a important collection for the serious collector in this area or very rare opportunity for someone wanting to jump into a very popular collecting speciality area, (ENV 10,000-15,000) (Image)

1442 image THE ROBERT H. SELLES EXTENSIVE BUREAU PRECANCEL COLLECTION, includes several thousand different Bureau precancels, mounted in (3) three ring binders on K & P album pages, this collection is virtually complete with the exception of the very rare cancels and probably lacks only a couple dozen different cancels, the overall condition is very clean with most being Very Fine, there are some scattered varieties and a few multiples, there are about 100 stamps with Noble catalog values of $10 or more, 14 with $50 or more, 17 with $100 or more and one in excess of $500 catalog value, we have included a number of scans of the pages with some better stamps, there are perhaps 9000 different here and the catalog value of the $10 plus stamps exceeds $5,500 Noble and there are certainly hundreds of stamps with values in the $1-10 range, so our estimated catalog value for this collection is probably in the $15,000-20,000 range, without question the most extensive and complete collection of Bureau Precancels we have ever offered, (ENV 5,000-7,500) (Image)
