VERY FINE. A SPECTACULAR AMERICAN CIRCUS THEMED COVER FROM THE GRANDFATHER OF THE MODERN CIRCUS, P.T. BARNUM, USED DURING HIS TRAVELS IN WIESBADEN.
The contents of the enclosed letter reads (in full): "I send you per Poste Restante (charges paid) 45 English copies of `Life of Barnum,' which I will thank you to take on commission. If any are sold the price to you will be 1/= English or 36k each. I expect to be in Frankfurt in a few days, & will do myself the pleasure of calling on you. Truly yours P.T. Barnum"
Charles Stratton, stage name "General Tom Thumb", was a midget act in P.T. Barnum's circus which was on European tour when this cover was written. He was a distant relative of Barnum that he taught to sing, dance and impersonate famous people. He quickly became an international success having performed for Queen Victoria (twice) and met the then Prince of Wales (later to become King Edward VII). We have only been able to find other examples of this cover used in the United States and Great Britain. This is the only example we have found used in Thurn and Taxis. (Image)

VERY FINE AND UNIQUE. A RARE PIECE OF MEMORABILIA FROM THE INFAMOUS HINDENBURG DISASTER.
The Hindenburg disaster occurred on May 6, 1937 at about 7:25 pm as the German passenger airship was beginning to dock (a flying moor) at the Naval Air Station in Lakehurst N.J. Accounts to this day differ in the exact start of the massive fire which brought the airship crashing down. Miraculously, of the 36 passengers and 61 crewman, only 13 passengers and 22 crewman perished. Additionally, one ground crew also lost their life.
This item is accompanied by a notarized statement dated June 1, 1937 (less than a month after) regarding how the owner at the time, Bill Schneider, Jr., obtained this cover. Chief Mechanic Sauter had signed and given this item to him. Also included are a couple other relevant notes dated 1938.
