Postmasters Provisionals: Lexington Va. thru Millidgeville Ga.
Lot Sym. Lot Description
3132 c ImageLexington Va., 5c Blue entire (135XU1). Study collection of ten covers on album pages, one 5c handstamp on cover with manuscript "Politeness of Mr. Lupin", carried outside the mails with no Lexington datestamp which qualifies this as a provisional use, minor corner wear, with 1981 P.F. certificate, the other nine covers with Lexington datestamps and therefore handstamped Paid uses, including two of the rare 10c, the Lexington markings are discussed in an article in the Philatelic Foundation's Opinions II book and Collectors Club Philatelist No. 217 of 1984, these fall into the class of Confederate provisional markings that are indistinguishable from handstamped Paids unless unused (meaning without town cancel, as the first example in this lot) sent from another town, or under a postally used General Issue (Image)
