I (7; Yvert 5), large to full margins, all cancelled or tied by diamond of dots cancel, "Guebwiller 23 Aout. '53" double-circle datestamp on narrow cover to Lansing, Iowa, Paris backstamp, "N. York Br. Pkt. 5 Sep. 9" circular datestamp, with original contents

VERY FINE. A COLORFUL COMBINATION OF THE 1850 40-CENTIMES ISSUE AND THE RARE 1852 10-CENTIMES NAPOLEON "PRESIDENCE" ISSUE ON COVER TO THE UNITED STATES.

This franking paid the 13-decimes rate and was carried on the Cunarder Asia. The 10c 1852 Napoleon "Presidence" Issue is very rare on an overseas cover (Image)

(part paid) handstamp, "N. York Am. Pkt. 21 Mar. 6" due circular datestamp, Very Fine an extremely rare "Three Months" Period cover by American Packet, with fewer than four known, per the 1856 France-Great Britain Treaty, France credited 40-centimes per 30 grams to GB and collected 10-centimes inland for a total prepayment of 50-centimes, these rates were in effect for only three months before the U.S.-France Treaty commenced (allowing for full prepayment), covers sent by American packet during the Three Months Period are rare due to the higher cost versus British packets and few sailings (only seven westbound sailings during the period), this was carried on the Collins Line steamer Atlantic, arriving New York Mar. 5, ex Noel (Image)
