512 //o   imageFrench Colonies, Magnificent Collection, 1875-1965. The Mother of all French Colonial Collections! on Scott Specialty pages in four behemoth green binders! 98% mint, many in crystal mounts, later appear NH, early classics are choice used, but there are some mini-collections of cancels here and there; They're all here---from Afars & Issas and Anjouan to French Guiana, Guadeloupe, Moheli and Ubangi! Many countries are complete mint by Scott numbers for the classic era; these stamps are fresh and crisp, this collection has been sitting for a couple of decades; there is also a lot of ancillary material, postal history, commercial covers, postal stationary, die varieties, imperfs, you name it; three lot describers passed out from carpel-tunnel syndrome and back strain just trying to write up this collection.
It includes: Anjouan (complete mint); Benin (largely complete until 1968, including #J1-2); Cameroun (complete mint from 1915-1963); Chad (appears to be complete through 1962); Dahomey (you can almost feel the oil oozing out of those palm trees, and the entire country looks complete from 1899-1962, except for #40); Diego Suarez (looks complete except for a half-dozen-or-so postage stamps, plus mint postal cards/stationary); French Offices in Egypt (Alexandria, Port Said), Morocco and Zanzibar pages are stuffed (at least one-half complete, many early mint, later used); French Congo (looks complete except about a half-dozen stamps, includes specialty material); French Equatorial Africa (1936-1957 mainly complete, with covers, varieties, cancels); French Guinea (1892-1942 complete mint); French Morocco (1902-1955 looks complete except for a dozen-or-so stamps); French Sudan (from 1894 and #3-# J20 complete, except for # CB1-4); French West Africa (mainly complete, plus covers, cancels, imperfs, varieties); Gabon (#11, #13, and then complete from 1904-1962); Grand Comoro (#1-29 complete mint); Ivory Coast (from 1892-1960, #1- J23 complete, plus covers and almost half of the extremely scarce parcel post stamps); Libia (Fezzan and Ghadames complete mint) (French) Madagascar (1889-1962 at least 95% complete, plus covers, and hundreds of used example in a small cancel collection); Mali (1959-1962 complete); Mauritania (1906-1961, #1-O11 complete); Mayotte (#1-38 complete); Middle Congo (1907-1933, #1-J33 complete); Moheli (complete); Niger (complete 1921-1962); Nossi-Be (complete from #23-44, with postal stationary and some nice cancels); Obock (complete from 1892, plus postal stationary); Reunion (1885-1963, some earlies, then #28-344 complete); St. Marie de Madagascar (complete); Senegal (begins in 1887, from 1892-1962 complete); Senegambia and Niger (complete); Somali Coast (stunning, from #29-309 looks virtually complete); Togo (9 different scarce 1914 French Occupation stamps mint, from 1916-1962 looks complete); Tunisia (1888-1962, from #1 complete, except for # 25); Ubangi-Chari (complete, plus a number of gutter blocks); Upper Senegal and Niger (complete); Upper Volta (complete to 1962); Algeria (1924-1958, complete from #1, with some covers); Annam and Tonkin 9complete); Castellorizo (nice selection plus strip-of-three rarity #1/1a/1); Cochin China (1886-1888 has 7 stamps, plus scarce French Colonies stamps with August 11 1875 socked-on-the-nose cancel); French Guiana (stunning page with many 1887-1892 issues, then from 1892 complete, plus some scarce die and perf and plate varieties); French India (complete mint except for about 15 stamps); French Polynesia (1902-1962 complete); French Southern and Antarctic Territory (complete to 1974 except for one set); Guadeloupe (one of the most comprehensive collections we've ever seen, complete by Scott number except for about 15 stamps); Indo-China (complete except for 15 postage due stamps and 1 parcel post); Inini (complete); Martinique (nice early, complete from 1890 except for 2 semi-postals and 1 parcel post); New Caledonia (strong early, then complete from 1892-1964 except for a dozen or so stamps); New Hebrides (complete to 1963 except for 3 postage stamps and 10 or-so postage dues; Rouad (complete except for #1-3); St. Pierre and Miquelon (impressive and comprehensive, from 1892-1942 missing only 2 stamps, others up to 1973, plus strong postage dues and parcel stamps); Tahiti (14 stamps); Wallis and Futuna Islands (complete through 1962!); PLUS, the fourth volume contains additional material from late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, also many nice cancels as well as blocks of specialized material, includes complete runs of several decades from the following French Colonials: French Southern and Antarctic, St. Pierre and Miquelon, French Guiana, Cameroun, Dahomey, French Equatorial Africa, French Polynesia, Ivory Coast, Guadeloupe, Madagascar, Martinique, Niger, Reunion, Senegal, Togo, Upper Volta; this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity! generally Fine to Very Fine, catalog will reach into six figures.
