904 10A imagePortland, O.T., Sep 10 (Multnomah), neat red cds (Whittlesey #3, R A) on buff cover to Wisconsin, franked with manuscript canceled 1851, 3¢ orange brown, vertical pair (mostly large margins), included is interesting & lengthy letter telling of life in Oregon…I passed through what is called French Paire, a splendid section of Country. It was or is settled by a good many Frenchmen, who have intermarried with the Natives or Squaws… I met a company of 40 Volunteers between Albany and Salem on their way to the mining country to help allay the difficulties between the Whites and Indians… I think the Indian as well as the poor Slave has been cruelly outraged and my sympathies are most on their side., plus much more, Very Fine.
