5244 ogO   imageUNITED STATES COLLECTION WITH "BACK OF THE BOOK" AND CONFEDERATES.

A delightful vintage collection with a few hundred 19th century stamps on old-time album pages for issues up to 1890, mint and used. The regular issues begin in 1851 with highlights including 1860 30cts orange (#38) used, 1861/66 perf 12 series to 90cts Washington used (#72) with unusual 3cts brown shade, 24cts red lilac (#70) and dark violet (#70c) shades. Then the grills inc. used 5cts brown, 24cts lilac and 30cts orange (#95, 99, 100), followed by 1869s grills to 12cts green used with excellent centering on the 6cts ultra (#112/117) and without grill 1ct mint (#123), followed by the 1870s inc. 10cts Jefferson with grill used (#139), without grills complete (#145/155) inc. 1ct and 2cts unused, 3cts and 10cts mint, 24cts with red concentric star fancy cancel, 30cts with blue cancel, etc. Better material in the later regular issues include 1883 4cts blue green mint (#211), 1888 30cts and 90cts purple used (#217/218) and the 1890/93 series complete mint (#219/229) except 2cts lake shade which is used. Then follows the back of the book, starting with the carrier stamps, 1879 postage dues complete used except the 2cts and 3cts mint (#J1/J7), 1884 postage dues complete used except the 10cts mint (#J15/J21), then a comprehensive showing of the officials with Agriculture complete mint save the 3cts and 6cts used (#O1/O9), Executive specimen o/ps complete (#O10S/O14S), Interior complete inc. 24cts mint (#O15/O24), Justice to 30cts with mint 1ct, 3ct, 6cts, 10cts and 24cts (#O25/O33), Post Office inc. 90cts mint (#O47/O56), Navy complete inc. 1ct, 3cts, 6cts and 10cts mint (#O35/O45), Treasury with mint 90cts (#O72/O82), War mostly mint inc. 12cts, 15cts, 24cts and 90cts (#O83/O93) and State Department  ,to 30cts inc. 1ct, 6cts, 12cts and 15cts mint (#O57/O66). Then there are the newspapers, complete for these pages, with the large issues of 1865 with various signatures and very few if any of the faults often found, then two shades of the 5cts blue with white border, followed by the allegory types with the 1875 first series complete mint to $60 violet, plus the distinct possibility of some additional special printings on the 2cts, 8cts and 12cts. Lastly are the Confederate issues with more than a dozen including the "TEN CENTS" Davis unused (#9) with flaw in corner. 5257 ogO   US "BACK OF THE BOOK" QUALITY COLLECTION,

Mint and used collection of several 100s of stamps, the first part housed on Scott specialty album leaves in a battered old binder, starting off with imperf revenues well displayed in far better condition than normally encountered, including 1862/71 1ct proprietary and telegraph (#R3/R4), 2cts proprietary (#R13), 25cts bond showing part of adjoining stamp (#R43), 70cts foreign exchange (#R65), $1 life insurance (#R71) and passage ticket (#R74), $2 mortgage (#R82) and $20 conveyance (#R98), followed by part perfs inc. 2cts playing cards (#R11), 25cts entry of goods (#R45) etc. The perf issues of the 1862/71 series are also well represented, with 3cts playing cards (#R17), $1.60 foreign exchange (#R79), $20 conveyance (#R98), etc. Then follows the second issue documentary stamps with 1871s complete up to the $1 with other denominations to $10 (#R128, manuscript not cut cancel), leading on to third issue to $5 with particularly attractive 70cts green with superb blue cds cancel (#R143), etc, etc. There is also a group of more than 40 beer stamps, housed in a second volume,  ,here some with small faults, as usual, though again others in condition far above those normally seen including 1875 162/3cts (#REA31), 1878 $1 (#REA42), '$2 per barrel' surcharge on 25cts (#REA46), 1914 provisional o/p on 331/3cts (#REA99) and more. A very pleasing collection put together by someone with an eye for quality, catalog must easily be in excess of $10,000. Please inspect carefully page for page, with the distinct probability of further finds to be made.
