A delightful vintage collection with a few hundred 19th century stamps on old-time album pages for issues up to 1890, mint and used. The regular issues begin in 1851 with highlights including 1860 30cts orange (#38) used, 1861/66 perf 12 series to 90cts Washington used (#72) with unusual 3cts brown shade, 24cts red lilac (#70) and dark violet (#70c) shades. Then the grills inc. used 5cts brown, 24cts lilac and 30cts orange (#95, 99, 100), followed by 1869s grills to 12cts green used with excellent centering on the 6cts ultra (#112/117) and without grill 1ct mint (#123), followed by the 1870s inc. 10cts Jefferson with grill used (#139), without grills complete (#145/155) inc. 1ct and 2cts unused, 3cts and 10cts mint, 24cts with red concentric star fancy cancel, 30cts with blue cancel, etc. Better material in the later regular issues include 1883 4cts blue green mint (#211), 1888 30cts and 90cts purple used (#217/218) and the 1890/93 series complete mint (#219/229) except 2cts lake shade which is used. Then follows the back of the book, starting with the carrier stamps, 1879 postage dues complete used except the 2cts and 3cts mint (#J1/J7), 1884 postage dues complete used except the 10cts mint (#J15/J21), then a comprehensive showing of the officials with Agriculture complete mint save the 3cts and 6cts used (#O1/O9), Executive specimen o/ps complete (#O10S/O14S), Interior complete inc. 24cts mint (#O15/O24), Justice to 30cts with mint 1ct, 3ct, 6cts, 10cts and 24cts (#O25/O33), Post Office inc. 90cts mint (#O47/O56), Navy complete inc. 1ct, 3cts, 6cts and 10cts mint (#O35/O45), Treasury with mint 90cts (#O72/O82), War mostly mint inc. 12cts, 15cts, 24cts and 90cts (#O83/O93) and State Department  ,to 30cts inc. 1ct, 6cts, 12cts and 15cts mint (#O57/O66). Then there are the newspapers, complete for these pages, with the large issues of 1865 with various signatures and very few if any of the faults often found, then two shades of the 5cts blue with white border, followed by the allegory types with the 1875 first series complete mint to $60 violet, plus the distinct possibility of some additional special printings on the 2cts, 8cts and 12cts. Lastly are the Confederate issues with more than a dozen including the "TEN CENTS" Davis unused (#9) with flaw in corner. This is an engaging old-time collection, no doubt with many more discoveries to be made. , ,(photo) (Image 1)
