Pittpex in 1978 by Dr. Martin and now offere1c-5c Lexington-Concord (617-619) First Day Cover Exhibit (ex Siskin). We stress quality here and not quantity when describing this lot, the finest collection of its kind we have seen. Originally shown at Pittpex in 1978 by Dr. Martin and now offered here intact. Highlights abound in this two-volume collection of almost 300 covers many of which are still in their original mounted exhibit pages. Better pieces begin with a very impressive selection of 27 covers with unofficial cancels including 617 x 4, 618 x 11, 619 x 1 & 617-619 (1) x 11, 1st Jackson cachets include three of each value (2 on 2c) with all 5c with foreign destinations with one to China and the others to France. There were 5 additional stamps issued the same day as the Lexington-Concord issues and we note eight in all including, 617 + 551, 617 plate block of six + 551, 618 + 586, 618 + 576, 618-619 + 551, 617-619 + 551, 617-619 (all plate numbers) + 551 + 576, all 8 issues on two covers with 585-587 being one of them. Other significant covers of note include the only known complete set with a pre-date of 4/3/25 from Boston, 617-19 (1) to Newfoundland, illustrated covers from the Hotel Continental in Washington D.C., large group of unofficial cities, original P.O. Dept. announcement, several semi-officials, 617 & 618 bisects (quite rare) on separate covers. One of the premier specialized collections of this issue, originally from the Martin Estate and since added to, one non-cover item is a set of 617P2-619P2 (Image)
