VERY FINE APPEARANCE. ONE OF ONLY THREE RECORDED EXAMPLES OF THE BATON ROUGE 2-CENT "McCCRMICK" ERROR. A MAJOR PHILATELIC RARITY OF CONFEDERATE POSTMASTERS' PROVISIONALS.

Our records contain three examples of the 2c "McCcrmick" error: 1) unused, ex Worthington, Green, 2001 Rarities sale (realized $12,500 hammer), 2) ms. "X" cancel, ex Ferrary, the stamp offered here, and 3) tied by Nov. 30, 1861 datestamp on cover to New Orleans, ex Caspary, Lilly and Freeland.

The recipient's military unit was on guard duty at Atchafalaya River and Bayou Teche from October 1861 thru February 1862.
