Feb. 28, 1848" and addressed to Oroomiah, Persia, neat strike of "Post Apr. 14" handstamp probably applied by one of the forwarders responsible for directing mail to and from missionaries in Persia, docketing at left indicates answered on June 15, some minor wear, Very Fine, scarce usage (Image) E. 400-500

1086 c Forwarding Agents. 147 covers on annotated exhibit pages in four albums, all identified by forwarder, route and packet incl. Cunard, Black Ball, Havre and others, many different forwarders incl. Harnden 1842-45 transatlantic usages from New York, Boston, Philadelphia and Liverpool, other agents incl. Gilpin, DeForest, Colomb & Iselin, Barnard Adams & Co., T. W. Ward, Vietor & Duckwitz, Goodhue & Co. (on 1843 letter from Macao), Balestier (ms. on 1846 from Singapore with Hong Kong circular datestamp), some later stamped covers thru B. F. Stevens, Baring Bros., Brown Shipley & Co., Munroe & Co. and other banking/forwarding firms, several from South America and Cuba in the 1850's and 60's, two 1856 letters from Bahamas to U.S., also a small group of 1844-45 Independent Mails incl. American Letter Mail Co., Overton, Hale, condition is well above average with clear strikes and many have flaps opened to show backstamps, this is an extraordinary offering of covers in the $100 to $200 value range, some $500+, there is also a monumental amount of research, letter transcriptions and information in the write-ups, the nucleus for expansion and the makings of a small specialized mail auction or net price sale E. 7,500-10,000
