VERY FINE AND CHOICE. A RARE COMPLETE SHEET OF THE 1841 2-PENCE TRIAL SHEET. ESPECIALLY DIFFICULT TO FIND IN THIS CHOICE CONDITION.
These trials were produced because the plates "with white lines" were not ready. Specimens were required to send to postmasters announcing this new issue so these were used to that affect and were printed without corner lettering.
SG Specialised £23,000 (Image)

EXTREMELY FINE. A PRISTINE EXAMPLE OF THE 2-PENCE ORMOND HILL DIE PROOF FROM DIE II RETOUCHED. VERY FEW EXAMPLES ARE BELIEVED TO EXIST IN PRIVATE HANDS AND EASILY ONE OF THE FINEST EXAMPLES.
Ormond Hill was the nephew of the famous Sir Rowland Hill. Along with Edwin Hill, the elder brother of Sir Rowland and father of Ormond, they were key individuals in the early production and development of postage stamps in Great Britain.
SG Specialised from £42,000 (Image)

VERY FINE AND RARE. ONLY TWO OR THREE OF EACH COLOR ARE THOUGHT TO HAVE BEEN PRINTED, MANY OF WHICH ARE CUT-DOWN TO STAMP SIZE. ONE OF THE FINEST EXAMPLES WE HAVE ENCOUNTERED.
These lighter and more fugitive color proofs were printed in Mauve-Pink, Dull Rose-Pink and Ultramarine. They are known with and without "Specimen" overprint. Most known examples have been cut down to stamp size and some have pinholes from being pinned to record books. This is by far one of the finest examples that we have found offered for sale.
