EXTREMELY FINE. AN OUTSTANDING COMBINATION OF THIS 11-STAR FLAG DESIGN AND THE "VICTORY OR DEATH" MADISON RIFLES SLOGAN, USED ON A COVER FROM FLORIDA.

This is one of the most attractive Warrington Florida Patriotic covers we have encountered. The original or "Old" 10th Mississippi Infantry, including Company I (Madison County Rifles), was organized in March 1861 and fought in several campaigns and battles in the Western Theater during the Civil War.

EXTREMELY FINE APPEARANCE. A CHOICE COMBINATION OF THIS 11-STAR FLAG DESIGN AND THE "SEMPER PARATUS" MOTTO OF THE QUITMAN LIGHT ARTILLERY, USED ON A COVER FROM FLORIDA.

Semper Paratus is a Latin phrase meaning "Always Ready." It is currently used as the motto of the U.S. Coast Guard. The Quitman Light Artillery was an independent battery mustered into service on April 9, 1861, made up of men from Adams County, Mississippi. R. T. English was at first listed as 3rd lieutenant of the battery, but by November 1861 he had evidently risen to captain.

S.C. with red and blue 11-Star Confederate Flag with Liberty Cap and Verse Patriotic design (F11-7, Verse 46), original matching lettersheet with same 11-Star Flag Patriotic design, datelined "Camp Hardee Ark. the 14th (Sep). 1861", war-related content including reference to General Pillow, both the cover and the lettersheet a bit war-warn with corner/edge repairs and soiling, still Fine appearing and presentable matched pair of this rare 11-Star design used from Arkansas, this flag has several antecedents with fewer stars (F7-5C, F8-10 and F10-15), all of these are scarce to rare, C.S.A. The "Bartow" endorsement refers to Francis S. Bartow, the first Confederate brigade commander killed in action, at First Manassas. Other versions of this flag have the Bartow name printed along the flag staff.
