VERY FINE. AN OUTSTANDING CONFEDERATE PATRIOTIC COVER WITH A REMARKABLE GREEN AND BLUE LITHOGRAPHED ISSUE FRANKING.

VERY FINE APPEARANCE. A WONDERFUL AND RARE 11-STAR FLAG "GAINES INVINCIBLES" PATRIOTIC COVER WITH THE 5-CENT GREEN FIRST GENERAL ISSUE.
The "Gaines Invincibles" was a company organized at Waynesboro Miss. on October 17, 1861. Angus Taylor, who was most likely the sender of this cover, was elected Captain. The company was a unit of the 6th Mississippi Infantry Battalion before being reorganized into Co. A of the 46th Mississippi Regiment.

VERY FINE APPEARANCE. AN EXCEEDINGLY RARE MULTICOLORED VERSION OF THE CONFEDERATE FLAG AND VERSE DESIGN PUBLISHED BY J. W. RANDOLPH OF RICHMOND.
The J. W. Randolph flag-and-verse design is relatively common, but this multicolored version is extremely rare and only alluded to in the C.S.A. Catalog: "Examples in color have been noted in the past but are not currently confirmed."
VERY FINE APPEARANCE. AN EXTREMELY RARE CONFEDERATE REGIMENTAL FLAG PATRIOTIC DESIGN USED WITHIN FLORIDA. THE ARRANGEMENT OF STARS IN THE SHAPE OF A CHRISTIAN CROSS IS UNIQUE TO THIS DESIGN.
"Leon Rifles" was the nickname given to the 1st Florida Infantry Regiment organized in April 1861 under Colonel James Patton Anderson. Company A was commanded by A. Perry Amaker. The distinctive Leon Rifles flag design is cited by Stephen R. Boyd in Patriotic Envelopes of the Civil War: The Iconography of Union and Confederate Covers as a "unique design unknown on any other Southern patriotic cover or flag. The eleven stars form an upright cross, making explicit the Southern's view of the close ties between Southern independence and Christianity" (p. 31).
