EXTREMELY FINE. A MAGNIFICENT 1847 ISSUE COVER WITH THE 5-CENT BROWN ORANGE TIED BY THE MAD RIVER AND LAKE ERIE RAILROAD ROUTE AGENT'S DATESTAMP.
This railroad route ran from Sandusky to Bellefontaine, Ohio. In 1848 it was extended to Springfield. The trains ran six trips per week and connected with the Little Miami Railroad for Cincinnati via Xenia. There are perhaps a half-dozen examples of this marking known on the 1847 Issue, and this is most definitely the finest.
Ex Boker and Gross. With 2013 P.F. certificate (Image)
EXTREMELY FINE. THIS IS ARGUABLY THE FINEST OF ALL EXAMPLES OF THE 10-CENT 1847 ISSUE VERTICAL BISECT. A SPECTACULAR COVER.
This is the only recorded bisect used from Walpole, New Hampshire. The brilliance and care taken in applying the cancel and circular datestamp remind us of other iconic 1847 covers, such as those from Waukegan, Illinois.
Ex Boker and Gross. With 1988 and 2013 P.F. certificates. (Image)
