The Peter Sharrer Collection of United States Classic Postal Markings continued...

1851-57 Issues continued...
Lot Sym. Lot Description
1087 c Image3c Dull Red, Ty. II (11A). Full to ample margins, tied by two strikes of "III" in "C" Trime fancy cancel with matching "Green Island, N.Y./MAR 19" two-line datestamp on cover to Meriden N.H.

EXTREMELY FINE. A REMARKABLE 1851 ISSUE COVER WITH THE STAMP TIED BY THE GREEN ISLAND 3-CENT FANCY CANCELLATION, IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE STRAIGHTLINE TOWN MARKING.

Illustrated and discussed in 1851 Sesquicentennial book (pages 269 and 283), where Frank Mandel notes that this marking is not known to him as a stampless rate marking. Therefore, it is apparently a distinctive and rare "Trime" fancy cancellation of the 1851 Issue era.
