A beautiful example with ample to mostly large margins, wonderfully bright color and impression, tied by neat and clear strike of oval grid cancel on bluish 1851 folded cover to New York City, manuscript directive "pr Land Mai", clear "Halifax-Nova-Scotia Oc 25 1851" split-ring circular datestamp on back, red "Paid" handstamp at top center, blue New Brunswick circular transit (on front) and St. John transit (on back)

EXTREMELY FINE. A MARVELOUS GEM QUALITY SINGLE FRANKING OF THE 1851 6-PENCE YELLOW GREEN ON A SCARCE OVERLAND MAIL COVER TO THE UNITED STATES.

In addition to the beauty of the stamp and the scarce overland mail use, this is a very early use of the 6p stamp. Described in The Postage Stamps of New Brunswick and Nova Scotia by Nicolas Argenti (pg. 108).
