Large to huge margins, used on 1859 folded letter from Naples to Siracusa via Palermo, stamp cancelled at Palermo by distinctive ornately framed "horseshoe" cancel usually found on stamps of Sicily, clear "Palermo 15 Mar 59 Arrivo" circular datestamp at top right

VERY FINE AND STRIKING. AN EXTREMELY RARE AND DESIRABLE USE OF THE DISTINCTIVE FANCY "HORSESHOE" CANCEL OF SICILY CANCELLING A STAMP OF NAPLES WHILE IN TRANSIT TO SIRACUSA.

A highly exhibitable and important cover showing use of the distinctive "horseshoe" framed cancel on a Naples stamp. This handstamp was intended to cancel the stamps of Sicily without obliterating the portrait of King Ferdinand II, nicknamed King "Bomba."

Signed Bolaffi and with 2000 Raybaudi certificate.
