1860 (Feb 15) envelope to "Mr Jens Nichelsen, in Wrexum a Fohr, Danemark" endorsed "Per Overland Mail" with QV Emblems Rouletted 2d
lilac, Octagonal 1/- blue (faults) & Woodblocks 2/- green tied by Barred Numeral '1' cancels with Melbourne small despatch backstamp, London 'AP 5/60/PAID' cds and 'P'-in-oval handstamp both in red on the face with "10½"[d] manuscript accountancy

Alexandria and 'Panther' to Marseilles arriving 3.4.1860, and onwards by train to the Royal Danish Postal Agency in Hamburg, Germany. Ex John Barwis.

Austro-Prussian War, and remains part of Germany. Not listed in Ben Palmer's Census and believed to be the only known cover from Victoria to the Danish Frisian Islands. It is likely to be the the only such cover from any of the Australian Colonies. (Image1) (Image2)
