1464       Africa, Airmail Postal History. Small but exciting grouping of about 100 middle range priced airmail covers from Africa. Mostly all are commercial uses from before World War Two with a few flights, censors and unusual items. Most are British and French colonies with some others along for the ride. Generally very fine. All are sleeved and priced with approximately $3,300 retail value.

Arranged on pages in Lindner album; includes Aunus with both mint and used sets with additional used blocks and high value, Karelia with the 1922 Bear issue complete mint, imperf marginal proof set and later 1940's issues including many covers and on card items, North Ingermanland with completion including Maffi overprint issue, imperfs and a few trial colors, and a run of used Aland issues; nice quality issues throughout, worth proper review.

Of mint and used sets, singles, blocks, part sheets with various plate numbers, varieties, souvenir sheets, FDCs and a few commercial-appearing registered covers. A large group of the 1976 overprint issue, many values to the $5 and $10 including several with italic "O" on this and other scarcer denominations. Mostly 1970s issues, a couple earlier. Rather messy presentation needing sorting and organizing. Lots of value, lots of work! All appear F-VF.

Of 25 items all neatly identified mounted on black stock pages with 1862 6d imperf plate proofs in black (one ex-Ulrich), 2 in green, one with manuscript vertical pen cancel, of A18 cancels (5, one on 6d green), strips of 3, blocks of 4, 1863 6d (all 3 shades plus one XF with jumbo margins), 1867 1d vermilion on piece with red cds alongside, etc.

Of 45 used stamps, 4 pairs (including the 1/), 2 strips of 3, a strip of 4, blocks of 4 (5, including one canceled A18 of English Harbor) and an irregular block of 9 on piece all on Hagner pages. Includes 1867 vermilion block of 4 and strip of 3 watermark sideways, 6d yellow-green, 1872 perf 12½ block ex-Toeg, 2½d red-brown watermark Crown CC, 1/ mauve and 1887 1d rose with A12 cancel and a number of shades, watermark varieties and re-entries. Centering above average for these. Most F-VF. (SG £2,500+). SG No. 5//30.

Includes 1867 1d vermilion and 1d lake watermark Crown CC each with major reentry, 6d blue-green watermark Crown CC strip of 3 used and watermark Crown CA mint each with Malburin mark, 1884 1d carmine red blocks of 12 (nearly all NH) and 18 re-entries and diagonal flaw, 1863 6d green (4) each with different re-entries.1d watermark Crown CA block of 6 with scratches on 2 stamps and single with re-entry (stamp faulty). A nice lot for the specialist. Most F-VF.

1470   Antigua, QV Forgery Collection. Of over 50 forged stamps on 3 quadrille pages including a partial "used" 1d sheet of 20, "used" 1d and 6d stamps in blocks and a pair in a range of shades, a few "unused" 1d and 6d imperforate stamps (scarce) and a 1/ violet keyplate produced by the Belgian forger Smeets (rare). 1472 /o      Argentina, Collection, 1858-2004. On as-new Lindner-T pages in 8 albums complete with tan pebble-grained binders, slipcases, page lifters, etc., about $2,000 new, Stamps are mixed mint and used, sparse on first few pages, but including #'s 12, 13, stamps realistically starting in the 1890's, running on with many overprints, only high values excluded (and some indeed ARE included), stamps closing at about 1990, with the volumes running until 2004. About 2,000 stamps plus Lindner albums.

Also includes 1850 1d dull carmine on piece (creased), 1857 6d imperf watermark "8", some VF imperfs of the 1854-9 and 1856-60 issue, a Spiro forgery of the 6d Diadem, an 8d Diadem die proof in bright blue, a VF reprinted die proof and later perforated issues including TPOs, Maritime, Railway, a group of KGV 1d reds and Kangaroos all with town cancel, a few perfins, etc.
