582 CVR   image1852 (August 10), 3d red Beaver on wove paper, strip of three on cover to Louis Joseph Papineau, the strip cancelled in manuscript, one stroke tying it to cover, postmarked with Quebec double split-ring despatch strike at lower left, addressed to Papineau at Petite Nation (he resided in Montebello), with partial arrival backstamp, various filing folds and a couple small edge tears, one at top clear of adhesive, strip with small scissor cut between two stamps, but a scarce franking, one of only eight recorded 9d domestic triple rate covers franked with three 3d wove stamps recorded in the Wayne Smith Census, fine, offered with the booklet "Louis Joseph Papineau - A Divided Soul" by Fernand Ouellet and a small pamphlet on Le Manoir Papineau a Montebello. 586 CVR   image1866 (March 2), "Public Works / Canada / Free" on 17c blue Cartier cover, to Hereford, England, adhesive tied by Ottawa duplex, carried via New York by the steamer "Cuba" of the Cunard Line, arriving on March 18, with next-day Hereford c.d.s. arrival backstamp, tear through flap, sender's notation under flap, some light soiling in places, but a rare cover, this circular Public Works handstamp unrecorded by Davis in "An Overview of the Canadian Government Official Handstruck Postal Markings”, where it is noted that "all known Public Works handstamps are hexagonal shaped," not the case in this instance, fine-very fine. Que. fancy cork, 1886 5c on shortpaid front to France with 10c and 40c black French postage dues, 1887 1c remailed Return of Statue Labour from Apsley to Lasswade and back (partly printed partly written printed matter not in the form of a letter), 1894 2c and 3c on lovely cover to France with Halifax squared circle cancel, 1897 8c to USA with Dutton Ontario squared circle cancel, condition varies from faulty to very fine, with a few being fronts only; inspection is highly recommended to gauge specific condition of each cover. 589 CVR   image1888 (December 27), 3c rose carmine Small Queen registered cover to the United States, two singles, placed on either side of 2c orange Registered Letter Stamp, tied to each other by 7-ring target and Registered straight-line cancels, paying the 3c US letter rate plus 5c registration fee from Clayton, Ontario to Boston, Massachusetts, with purple oval receiver (31 Dec), and with Almonte (28 Dec), Ottawa (28 Dec) and Montreal (29 Dec) transit backstamps, attractive and very fine; at that time, the use of the 5c RLS to pay the registration fee was still required and this cover is a lovely exception to this rule.
