957 Graf Zeppelin imageInteresting Collection of Original Graf Zeppelin Ephemera, from the property of a gentleman who was aboard the Graf Zeppelin, for its round trip over Great Britain in August, 1931. The lot begins with the original ticket, issued to Mr. J.E. Hodgson for the cost of £30, embarking from London Air Park, Feltham on August 18, 1931, and continues with Mr Hodgson's detailed notes made on board the Zeppelin including "Landing 7", "Onboard 7.20", "crowd-unruly", and continues with a time line of various points of interest over the two days of flight. The lot also includes a pack of 38 photographs (serie 10), in the original envelope, noted by Hodgson on the front cover "Bought on board the Graf Zeppelin, while travelling down the east coast, Aug. 19 / 31"; a souvenir stick pin; menu for the onboard supper of August 18, and the regulations guide for passenger trips. The lot rounds out with Mr. Hodgson's correspondence with other air enthusiasts (roughly 18 letters from the 1930s, including two Western Union telegrams from Orville Wright, newspaper articles relating to air travel and prominent air pioneers, ranging from 1931 to 1948, including 2 articles with photos, giving a first hand account of the August 1931 flight over Great Britain, and two periodicals relating to air travel. A most interesting lot, as no mail was flown during this round trip, this is an eye witness account of the most popular mode of air transportation in the day. Online photos show an overview.
