746 CVR Wentworth imageGroup of Four Interesting Items from Hamilton, all written-up on exhibit pages, the first is a freight money letter, mailed 1839 to London, England, through New York, with interesting rate markings / route. Ex Stulberg, Steinhart, Robertson and Cloutier. Second was mailed to Trafalgar with the LRD for the Hamilton datestamp (one of only three known in blue). Also two Webster Bros. Florist postal cards mailed 1894 and 1900, both with an "1829 Type" datestamp applied by the Postmaster. 749 CVR Wentworth image1829 Hamilton Manuscript Precursor on Folded Letter, only two postmasters used this style of postmark in the early days of Hamilton post office, and this is the second, written by Postmaster S.M. Cameron. Only three of these have been recorded, and this is the earliest date. The letter inside is datelined "Barton", very fine, ex Cloutier and still on his exhibit page.

754 CVR   image1829 Nicolet "1829" Type on Folded Letter to Sandwich, mailed on OCT.20.1829 (in red, date is confirmed in letter inside) to the Postmaster at Sandwich. The letter is free franked (with a second "1829" Type with "Free" written inside - first we've seen) by Luc Michel Cressé, appointed Deputy Postmaster in 1828. The Nicolet writer is asking to send him (in Nicolet) all mail that is addressed to a number of other towns, possibly because they did not yet have post offices. Rare and fine.

756 CVR   imageTwo Early 1796 Folded Letters with BERTHiER Straightline Postmarks, both are addressed to Joseph Ried Ecuier, in Montréal, first is a small folded letter with PAID handstamp in black and "4½" manuscript rate, with blurry, but readable BERTHiER straightline on back. Second is a larger folded cover containing a separate 6 page letter inside (first time we've seen this), with PAID handstamp in black and "9" manuscript rate, with a perfect strike of the "BERTHiER." straightline on back. Both letters written by the same person, datelined "au St Esprit" with dates 2ieme avril 1796 and "18ieme d'avril 1796". Both are very fine and have very legible letters inside.
