1035 CVR CL42 imageGroup of 4 Different Interrupted Flight Covers Serviced by Dog Teams, Franked with CL42, all originating on Nov.24.1927 from White Horse which was the company's first attempt to service the weekly route. Covers were addressed to Mayo Landing (65 pieces reported), Wernecke (108 pieces reported), Keno Hill (72 pieces reported), and Dawson (65 pieces reported). Before reaching Pelly Summit, a hose burst in the engine and the lost oil pressure forced the plane to land near the base of the summit. Repairs of the engine failed, and dog teams delivered mail to the four destinations, all of which have receivers in December, 1927. A bit of staining on the CL42 stamp of the cover to Wernecke and double sided tape on the front of the Mayo Landing cover. A complete set of four flight covers in overall fine to very fine condition. 1036 CVR CL42 imageHighly Specialized Collection of 18 Flight Covers Franked with CL42, consisting of flights (flown by all three company planes), from November 1927 to near the end of the company's existence in October 1929. Highlights include: CL42f "repair entry in left '2' of '25'" on an Apr.16. 1928 White Horse to Carcross first flight cover (c.v. $500); CL42a "ArRWAYS" variety on Apr.17. 1928 White Horse to Dawson unlisted flight (c.v. $550); Mar.30. 1929 White Horse to Mayo Landing unlisted flight (this was the opening leg of flight on the failed attempt by "The Northern Light" to Aklavik, and only a few known to us); Oct.8. 1929 Dawson to White Horse unlisted flight (return first flight of "The Queen of the Yukon II"), with very few covers flown by this aircraft; and two commercially used envelopes posted at Atlin on Apr.16. 1928 (were probably flown on the first flight to White Horse). A few covers have double sided tape remnants on the front or back, with a remnant over top the CL42a stamp. Catalogue value was based on Unitrade pricing, however, this does not take into account the rarity of some of the flights found in this collection.
