The folded circular is franked with a 1c orange Small Queen, cancelled by a very fine strike of the #9 in cogwheel fancy cancel (Lacelle #119). 1281 CVR   imageLovely Collection of Type 1 Grid Obliterators, all neatly written-up on 6 quadrille pages, showing neat reproductions of the backstamps, explanation of the rates, usages of the grid, etc. This collection is titled "Examples of Late Use of New Brunswick Type "1" and includes a Type 1 obliterator (oval grid without number, with square centre) on 7 stamps plus 10 covers, all dated between 1860 and 1900. Includes better such as a 1900 registered Map and 5c Numeral cover, a January 1, 1870 1c + 2c Large Queen cover, an 1885 3c SQ cover from Hampton (described as one of four reported), 1866 2x 5c NB on cover to New York, an 1866 folded Insurance advertising sheet (described as unreported usage), an 1860 cover with stamp fallen off, then re-affixed in a different area, an 1867 NB to NS 5c cover with same day delivery, an 1864 5c cover to Ottawa with large Ottawa & Prescott Railway datestamp on back, and more. Also includes a group of items (not on pages) with late usages of the Type 1 oval grid cancels, such as an 1897 3c SQ piece with Canoble datestamp (ex. Halliday), a strip of 4x 3c SQ on piece from Coles Island, an 1876 1c + 2c SQ cover from Welsford, an 1863 5c NB cover from Hampton Ferry (with enclosure and notation "gone away"), etc. A few faults do not detract from the subject, still not many of these old-time collections remain. 1283 CVR/PC   imageCollection of New Brunswick Town Postmarks 1840s to 1930s, on over 600 covers and cards. The collection is sorted alphabetically by post office, and includes a large amount of small office postmarks, early and late dates, many "only known on cover" or one of 2 or 3 known, many Small and Large Queen covers, as well as many covers franked with NB stamps, stampless, better postmarks such as a lovely 1906 Indiantown squared circle, many registered covers, a good variety of postmarks such as duplex, datestamps of all sorts, fancy corks, etc. Also includes picture postcards (incl. real photos) depicting town scenes, sometimes showing the post office there. All but one cover are small size and there are faults as the collection caters to postmarks, still generally fine condition. Too many scarce to rare post offices and postmarks to list here, viewing is highly recommended to better appreciate to wealth included, a rare opportunity to acquire some important NB postal history. 1288 O   imageCollection of Oval Grid Numerals on New Brunswick Pence Stamps, with 15 different numerals on 23 stamps, all 3d except for three 6d. See online scan for a visual, but the following numbers are included: 1, 5, 7, 8, 12, 13, 14, 15, 17, 21, 23, 24, 25, 31 and 34. This includes Rarity Factors 10 (x1), 9 (x2), 8 (x6), 7 (x2), 6 (x2) and 4 (x1). The stamps themselves have a variety of margins and are mostly all quite presentable, except for the 3d with #31 which is damaged. The #31 (RF 10) could possibly be a superimposed 1 and 3, as there is evidence of two grid strikes. A lovely and rarely offered group, with an enormous catalogue value as stamps only. Ex. 1289 CVR   image3d red Imperforate on Folded Letter, mailed Dorchester NB on JAN.15.1856 (broken circle on back) and addressed to the Westmorland Bank in Moncton. The folded letter (no contents) is franked with a 3½ margin 3d red Heraldic, neatly tied by an oval grid numeral 11 (RF 6 in Unitrade, rare). The back has a broken circle same-day receiver from "Bend of Petitcodiac" which was the old name for Moncton, which incorporated in 1855.
