4578 ogO   PAPAL STATES AND VATICAN CITY.

A fascinating range of 1000s of stamps mostly in complete series housed in 2 well-filled boxes with many hundreds of glassine envelopes, for the most part in chronological order. Beginning with the Papal States imperfs mint and used with dozens of these, many with four margins including those used on piece, also seen fascinating script cancels, etc. Then follows Vatican City with a substantial range of material, however mostly used on the early 1930s/’40s and running into many mint in blocks of four thereafter. Please note that occasionally there are many blocks of four crammed one on the other, making this a somewhat difficult viewing, as it is so well filled through to the modern era. Also seen, back of the book etc. Great retail potential with sleepers are likely from this old-time holding. Dealers put this on your list of lots to view.

4580 ogO   VENEZUELA, "WORK IN PROGRESS", AN EXCITING HOLDING,

This represents the balance of a large accumulation we've much enjoyed working on. There are several 100s, possibly 1000s of stamps here housed in a stack of old-fashioned album leaves of different shapes and sizes, as bought over the years. Much of the value is in ,19th ,century, especially with a diverse range of postmarks. The ,20th ,century also has strength, particularly the early o/ps and an excellent study on the 1903 ship issues and much more. On the first issues alone there are several dozen stamps and this is a joy to plow through and study. Other highlights include 1867 1/2ct yellow green and 1ct blue green 'arms' both used (#16/17) and the 2r yellow mint (#21), interesting specialised sections of the turn of the century Bolivar issues inc. studies of town cancels and publicity markings, also errors seen such as 1933 37 1/2cts surcharge double in block of four, as well as an excellent range of back of the book with San Tomas &ndash, La Guaira steamboat locals, scarce Puerto Cabello locals, pages of Gauyana locals both large and small, plus Carupano 'correos' handstamp issues of 1903 , etc etc. This is material that was bought in many auction houses over the decades that was this man's 'work in progress', enormous potential, much more here than described.

Hundreds of mint and used stamps with extensive classics, housed on a combination of blank quadrille pages and Schaubek pages for mint and used, separated as in the case of the first page etc. Highlights include #1-3 mint (1r blue unused), 1862 'arms' #7-9 mint/unused with the cuarto centavo green having enormous margins all round and signed, then later on 1862s used with the 1/2ct and 1ct both four margins (#8/9). Classics abound on additional pages of studies, with particularly good first issues including further mint examples organised by printing, as well as an excellent display of used with colored cancels and cds postmarks on piece, straight-line and numeral cancels, etc. 'Federacion' eagles also interesting with some used, as well as a 1/2r orange mint block of four, through to the small arms types of the 1860s/70s deserving investigation, 1879 imperf Bolivars complete used (#49/57) with cancelation studies following, 1880 'Escuelas' complete used (#58/67), the 1880 lithographed series mint and used complete (#68/73), 1887/88 rouletted issues inc. complete used (#92/95), 1896 maps complete mint and used (except no 10cts mint), and much more through to the 1920s. Lot Symbol CatNo. Lot Description CV or Estimate
4585 ogOc   YUGOSLAVIA, OUTSTANDING COLLECTION FROM 1920S TO EARLY 1930S,

Several hundreds of stamps including postal history, the vast majority used, beginning with the King Alexander issues used including multiples and the same series with two dozen remarkable paper folds, some small, some large width, occasional multiple format mint and used on these first definitives, even a partial print, an absolutely outstanding and most visual page. The next few pages have partial printings on the back, fantastic misperfs and imperfs between horizontally, as well as postal history including first issues on world packet cards, registered mail, etc. , Then follows the advertising set of 6 on cover with red oval cancels, the 1922/24 war damage issues inc imperf blocks of 4 of #B1 to #B3, as well as unusual U.R.I. o/p on 10d red, followed by an extensive range of plate varieties on the overprint varieties on #15 to #21, including a mint example of #19b, Scott retail a ludicrously low $100 for the 2800 printed, accompanied by Velimir Ercegovic certificate. Also, a Zrinjscak certificate for a packet card from Senta to Sarajevo with Michel #155 and the scarce #167 type II/ #164b, etc. Further issues of the this period incl postal history with some unusual material many of which, as so often is the case with the collection from this estate, would make good individual auction lots in their own right. Then follows 1923 defins inc specialised material accompanied by Zrinjscak certificates, overprint varieties inc double o/ps on #27 and yet again Ercegovic certificate on Michel #175 with green o/p variety. Further studies of the 1924 defins inc perf-ins, an attractive looking multiple format registered cover,  ,followed by King Alexander issues again with multiples on cover and an extensive studies of perforation varieties and further pre-printing flaws, etc. Then a first flight cover Zagreb to Graz 1930, as well as various , o/ps on definitives with another Zrinjscak certificate and further varieties which must be seen to be appreciated as it is so extensive and specialised. The collection ends with back of the book and good postal history with a wide ranging study of postage dues from 1921, especially the packet cards again with multiples, as well as the scarce mint #J12 to #J20 and multiples of such on cover and a certificate for Michel #21 I 22 II , - I in multiple format, etc, etc. Time and space do not permit further description of this wonderful collection, other than to say that it would be impossible to replace today.

4586 ogOc   YUGOSLAVIA, SPECIALIZED COLLECTION WITH ESSAYS, ERRORS, 1931-1940S AS WELL AS POSTAL HISTORY WITH ZEPPELINS, ROCKET, ETC.

A phenomenal exhibition-standard collection of many hundreds of stamps and covers, well written-up in a substantial Schaubek album. The period covered is from 1930 to the WWII era, with scarce stamps, as well as many covers all selected for quality over a lifetime of collecting. Beginning with the Alexander definitives Scott type A7, organised by imprint with both the 'Stojicevic-Wagner' type and 'D Wagner' incl. mint never hinged series to the 30d and the 1932/33 series without imprint at foot complete mint never hinged, plus a fantastic array of errors and varieties on these issues with studies of constant sheet varieties, offsets, misperfs, etc, as well as many colorful parcel post stationery cards with stamp combinations. Other good postal history in this period includes a study of paquebots and ship cancels all on King Alexander covers. Then follow the 1933 P.E.N. semi-postals with an illustrated first day cover bearing the full series tied by special red cancels, registered to Germany with air postmarks in blue and red, the 1933 Sokol semi-postals with mint 75p+25p sheet margin pair with vertical perforations double, 1933 'Jugoslavija' o/ps complete mint never hinged as well as varieties inc. ,2nd cyrilic 'J' broken on 50p on correctly franked Express cover, double o/p on 25p used on piece, etc, followed by the same o/ps on 1926 semi-postals inc. missing 'I' constant variety on all three issues. Then excellent Zeppelin as well as Glider flight covers of 1933, the 1934 Sokol semi-postals series on cover with special cancels, 1934 first airposts complete on FDC registered to Vienna, etc, leading on to Alexander memorial issues inc. scarce postal history inc. 50p on 1935 'Jug 1' Rocket flight cover, as well as great-looking errors including pre-overprinting paper folds. The issues of the new King Peter II begin with a remarkable page of Neuberry essays for unissued 1d design, all in multiple format with both sides of each item printed in a different color, making 34 essays in total. The collection then continues equally strongly with highlights including 1938 aeronautical exhibition 2d+1d rose violet mint never hinged pair perf 11 1/2 ,accompanied by Zrinjscak certificate, 1938 shot-putter 2d+2d mint never hinged sheet marginal block of four imperf between horizontally #B73 as normal, special covers and FDCs throughout the 1930s, Nazi propaganda for the visit of Prince Regent Paul in June 1939, 1940 child welfare 2d+2d mint never hinged sheet marginal block of four with the central violet rose print shifted dramatically, 1940 red cross semi-postal 1d+1d mint never hinged with surcharge inverted (signed Zrinjscak), etc, etc. Collections of this period with this depth of specialisation are hardly ever seen on the market today.

4587 ogOc   SLOVENIA IN TRANSITION TO YUGOSLAVIA 1919, SPECIALIZED 'CHAIN BREAKERS', BACK OF BOOK, POSTAL HISTORY AND STAMPS, CERTIFICATES BY ZRINISCAK, ERCEGOVIC AND VELICKOVIC,

An in-depth collection of the early issues of Slovenia when it was for postal purposes a separate region of the subsequent Yugoslavia, with many 1000s of mint and used stamps and covers, all well displayed and written-up in three substantial Schaubek albums. The 1919 chain-breaker issues are extensive and of course complicated, categorised by the lithographic and typographic printings, as well as the various paper types starting with the rough gray, then smooth white, then porous, among which is a rare example of a special control printing on cigarette paper (accompanied by Tubinovic certificate), the exact purpose of which has still to be properly researched! On each of these categories there is intense specialisation on the many constant plate varieties, as well as perforation errors such as the 5f green mint never hinged pair with double vertical perforations, the 40f bister used strip of three with extra row of perfs through the middle of the central stamp, the 5f green and 25f blue mint never hinged pairs imperf between, etc. Then further methodical studies on the different sunbeam types denomination by denomination, followed by expertized bisects including 30f rose bisect on large part of stationery with Ercegovic certificate, 3f violet and 15f blue bisects together on piece and 20f brown bisected again on piece all signed by Schlenger, as well as further 30pf brown bisects on cover and on large part of stationery with freedom issues, accompanied by Velickovic certificate. The 1919/20 allegories of freedom and King Peter issues follow in similar detail, with highlights including the rouletted 60pf dark blue in mint never hinged corner marginal block of four with the lower right stamp (the ,100th ,and last in the sheet) showing the constant white strike through '6' variety (accompanied by Zrinjscak certificate), leading on to the 1920 small type chain breaker with many plate varieties such as missing 'I' in DINARA on the central stamp of 2d gray violet mint never hinged, as well as used strips of three. However possibly the best on these issues are probably the bisects inc. 5p green bisected on cover with 15p and 25p, tied by Grosuplje Kolodvor railway postmarks and making the correct rate to Zagreb, Croatia. Another fascinating area is the extraordinary range of manuscript and handstamp 'porto' overprints, types A1 and A2 with many of the manuscript examples on cover, including on large piece, a rare example of a 'porto' handstamp on a bisect of the 10f red chain breaker, accompanied by Ercegovic certificate, etc. A fascinating and scholarly collection, of which this description is at best only an outline, there are many items here which will be very difficult to discover again.

4588 c   YUGOSLAVIA EXTENSIVE POSTMARK AND POSTAL HISTORY COLLECTION, 1920S-1930S,

Housed in one bulging Schaubek album, integrated with over 100 examples of scarce postal history, a good number of which could be offered as individual auction lots, well placed methodically into a collection of several hundreds of stamps, most of which are on piece, giving the full double concentric circle postmarks, alphabetically organised 'A-Z', in both cyrillic and roman alphabets, primarily on the King Alexander and King Peter issues, although occasional Bosnia Herzegovina in transition 1919 and other analogous regions periods present. This is the postmark section of this period from a world-class estate we are breaking down from the Balkans area. For example we have seen Apatin, through to different districts of Belgrade on to Belica, Beltinci, Boka, Bosiljebo, Caribrod, Cetinje, Carevo Selo, Cherne, Cakovec, Derevic, Debar, Drnje, Drace, Dubica,Frankolovo, Fala, Grace, Gracac, Golnik, Gornygrad, Hoce, Jacehobo, Jesenice, Koprivnica, Kocane, Kladovo, Kotop, etc all the way through to Valjevo, Virovitica, Vladicinhan, Vuckovar, various Zagreb districts, Zauecar, Zemun, Ziri and finally Zruce! Quite remarkable and difficult to replace again, as there are many small towns even villages, some of which don&rsquo,t even exist today.
