4550 og/nh   SERBIA ARCHIVAL HOLDING,

Recently unearthed after many decades, concentrating on the first Karageorgevich issues turn of the century 14, with many 1000s of mint stamps in large multiple format. This is an exciting holding for the specialist with plenty of distinct shades, papers, printing and perforation errors, shifted vignettes, etc. There are also hundreds of imperfs both mentioned and unknown according to Scott. Highlights we found include the 25p ultra and black, with very approximately 1500 of these, plus a block of twenty showing dramatically shifted portrait vignettes. There are no doubt some of the scarcer laid paper types here too. The 5d violet and black top value is also here in quantity. Then the 1911/14 series which is also extensive including the 3d lake high value in quantity with a minimum 300 imperf and about 2000 examples perf, again with lots of shades and including a block of 50 with offset printing on reverse. On a final &lsquo, sorting&rsquo, (of a kind) we also saw a part sheet of the 10p red with double row of perfs between twenty stamps. There will however be so much more here to discover. A fantastic opportunity for the Serbia specialist, needing plenty of time to view properly to appreciate what is here.

4553 ogO   imageSPAIN AN EXCITING RANGE OF MATERIAL FROM CLASSICS ONWARDS.

One volume, mint and used, every page with interesting material representing purchases made over the decades by an active buyer of Spain, fortunately for quality only. A really delightful lot to view, starting off with #1 with 16 examples, mostly 4 margined, including a very attractive red cds cancel on piece, as well as black and red cancels combined, also noticed white and buff papers, etc. This is followed by further imperfs, the highlight being a very scarce stamp, accompanied by Royal Philatelic Society certificate, a 4 margined example unused of the key value 19cts brown of the 1860/61 definitives on tinted paper imperf. There are also several other dozen imperf stamps, virtually all four margined imperforate, colored cancels, concentric circle strikes with a wide range of material that the specialist will like going through. Also good perforated issues of ,19th ,century, although we believe there will be the occasional punched hole, please determine for yourself. Part of the collection is housed on old fashioned approval pages and certainly looks very interesting with distinct probability of many finds to be made, especially if catalogues other than Scott are used. The ,20th ,century also good including zeppelin Sevilla to Lakehurst with Spanish airmail multiples and high value defins, as well as the scarce mint submarine miniature sheet of 1938, the large perf and imperf army navy sheetlets of 1938, etc, etc. The more you look at this lot the better it becomes, a highly recommended viewing.

A beautifully presented collection in 5 albums, showing virtually all aspects of Swiss military mail from the late ,19th ,century to mid 20th, everything expertly written-up, with hundreds of soldier stamps of the WWI period and 200 postal history items all different. Highlights include an illustrated postcard from 1899 with cachet of the 'federal commissariat for war' and no stamp required, two color postcards from the same series, both canceled at Lausanne August 1901, showing maneuvers of infantry and cavalry, handpainted fieldpost card of 1905 through to 1919 fieldpost card with ‘control by military authority’ cachet and postage due applied. Also lots of early military humor, WWI period propaganda including cards apparently not listed in the surveys, as well as illustrated series of cards inc. nine showing illustrations by Moos of various aspects of frontier service and three beautiful illustrated special postal stationery cards with the inscription in French and German 'The Swiss Soldier Across the Centuries'. There are also covers pre-canceled, as issued to the troops inc. ,89th ,mountain infantry battalion, ,58th ,battalion 5cts pair with red 'for our warriors' overprints along with black o/p and without o/p, unused singles. Then there is a bulging album of WWII period postal history, all organized by battalion with fascinating evocative color illustrations and fieldpost labels on the majority inc. bridging battalions, motorized battery regiments, volunteer troops, etc. Also an excellent section for the work companies showing the construction and camouflaging of bunkers, anti-tank defenses etc. in the forests and mountains, a section on the Sargans Fortress, etc, etc. A pleasurable collection to view with much more here. There is material seldom seen and it would be difficult, if not impossible, to replace this lifetime’s work.
