1296 3a image#3a, 1851 1/- Bright red violet, half used as 6p, diagonal bisect, a large example of this extremely rare bisect showing the full numeral "12" in all three of the corners, large margin at top and just along the design at left, tied to an extraordinarily attractive 1860 cover from Chatham to Boston by numeral "8" oval grid cancel, "Chatham/N.B./FE 6 1860" large double-arc c.d.s. on the reverse, St. John transit on the front with red "Paid/10" in circle cross border marking, small edge cut at bottom and filing pin holes to cover, neither of which affects the stamp, markings or this cover's lovely appearance, very fine; accompanying 1970 RPS certificate states in its inimitable way "has been treated", we find no evidence of anything done to either the stamp or the cover, moreover, the cover offered here is much more attractive than most of the mere dozen or so covers that are believed to exist of this rare bisect usage; 1970 RPS certificate; ex-Dale-Lichtenstein.
