215 ogbl S.G. #14 S.G. #14, 1875 1p Yellow green, perf. 14, wmk. large star, bottom right corner-margin block of 42 (6x7), fresh mint block with full original gum, 28 stamps are never hinged, centered into the design at top so the top "Grenada" label appears at bottom of the stamp above, "Grenada" in the bottom row is virtually missing; 60 sheets of the 1,020 sheets printed were so poor that they were supposedly destroyed, however Mr. Walker's study convinces him that at least some of them somehow got into the philatelic market, however this is what the catalog values apply to as in over 30 years all the unused examples he has seen of this issue come from these misperforated sheets (Scott #7a; $2,310.00+). 218 O S.G. #14, 14a imageS.G. #14, 14a, 1875 1p Green, perf. 14, wmk. large star, single and diagonal bisect, tied to significant piece of St. George's Chronicle and Grenada Gazette, well tied across the bisect by two strikes of "D/May 9/1877" c.d.s. of Grenville with additional strike below, portion of address shows at right and is undoubtedly to a location in the British Isles as this is precisely the rate for newspapers sent from outlying parish post offices to Great Britain and resulted in the authorized bisecting of the 1p values, very fine and scarce; Stanley Gibbons for this bisect on cover is £6,500, this "cover" designation is a bit misleading because normal legitimate usage of bisects was for newspapers and normally only a piece is used to show this usage, which this price should be applied to; ex-Dale-Lichtenstein (Scott #7A, 7Aa; $7,500.00 on cover). 220 c S.G. #12, 14, 14a imageS.G. #14, 14a, 1875 1p Green, perf. 14, wmk.large star, diagonal bisect, along with two singles of the 1p and an 1873 6p Orange vermilion (S.G. #12), on wonderfully attractive 1877 cover to France (cover professionally and amazingly well restored), this cover originated at the parish post office of Sauteurs with the 6p and two 1p singles tied by "C/Oct 27/77" c.d.s. with additional strike on reverse, small Grenada c.d.s. of the General Post Office at St. George's of the same date on the reverse, apparently held in St. George's for over a week when another strike of November 6th was applied and the 1p bisect was added and clearly tied by "A15" in bars oval cancel in the same ink as the November c.d.s. (slightly browner than the first strike), treated as a fully paid cover with red crayon "1/0 1/2" rate due to England, red London Paid and French maritime c.d.s. on the front, backstamped, extremely fine appearance and an exceedingly rare bisect cover. This cover illustrates the great confusion by the various Grenadine post office officials concerning the proper rate to France. This is one of three bisect covers from an outlying parish post office to France. One is franked as this and the other has 8p postage including two diagonal bisects. There are also three covers with bisects to France from the General Post Office at St. George's. But these are all apparently more correctly franked 1/1 1/2. All six covers credit Great Britain 1/01/2 regardless of whether there was enough postage to cover that amount. From our research this cover was first offered and its story told in an April 25th, 1963 auction of Grenada for an unnamed collector by Harmer Rooke and Co. of London where it was described as "A very valuable and probably unique cover." (Scott #7, 7A, 7Aa). (Image) Est. 5,000-7,500
