947 F 294-99 image#294-99, 1c-10c Pan-Americans cplt., an attractive complete set of well centered singles tied to a registered first day cover to Manchester, England, the stamps, which have been beautifully arranged on the small cover in a "cross" fashion have all been neatly tied by Lynn, Mass. double oval postmarks, clear three line "REGISTERED/May 1, 1901/Lynn, Mass." handstamp at bottom right, New York registry label affixed at bottom left, New York transit c.d.s. and Manchester arrival oval on reverse, extremely fine. An extraordinarily choice and colorful example of this very rare and popular complete set first day cover. In addition to being one of only thirteen recorded covers bearing a complete set of the 1901 Pan-American Exposition series, this cover is one of the finest and most attractive that exists. It has not been offered on the market since 1983. Alan Berkun, one of the premier students of first day covers, has compiled the most extensive census to date of the Pan-American complete set first day covers. He records six covers from the District of Columbia (four addressed to Germany and one to Switzerland), four from Massachusetts, two from New York (one of which is addressed to Switzerland) and one from Seattle. This cover has been lightly signed by H. Bloch and is accompanied by his 1980 Friedl certificate, in addition to having a 1983 PF certificate. (Image) Mellone 30,000.00
