1388 O U275 image#U275, 2c Brown on blue, round "O" in "TWO", an extraordinarily choice used cut square, measuring 34x44mm, strong color on fresh clean paper, neatly cancelled with unusual "dots in target" postmark, extremely fine; incredibly rare, as only four used cut squares and one used entire are known according to our records (there are no known mint entires or mint cut squares), of the four used cut squares, this is the finest, as one is cut very close (ex-Lyons), another has portions of the manuscript address near the indicia (ex-"Michigan" Collection) and one is cut slightly smaller than the Floyd example (ex-Wampler); a highly important cut square for the collector taking on the challenge of attempting to have a complete cut square collection. Lot Symbol CatNo. Lot Description CV or Estimate
1398 og U298 image#U298, 1c Blue on oriental buff, mint cut square, 42x45mm, a particularly choice example of this cut square rarity, wonderfully bright and fresh, extremely fine; among the finest available of the mere nine cut squares that are believed to exist; ex-"Michigan" Collection. Closed or SOLD for $9,000.00
Closing..Oct-25, 12:00 PM
1399 Sc U299 image#U299, 1c Blue on blue, die 83, size 8, knife 38, wmk. 12, entire with vertical "Specimen." overprint reading up at far left of entire, "Armour & Company" printed return corner card, very fine; will yield an extremely fine full corner cut square, which would be an enormous rarity in its own right, as only six mint cut squares exist, however we are aware of no other entire that exists without the "Specimen." overprint, and as an entire this represents one of the key additions to a serious mint entire collection; by way of price comparison, the Dr. Summers mint full corner cut square sold in our June 2000 sale for $20,000.00, plus the 10% buyer's premium; ex-Sheriff and Wampler (UPSS #893). Paul Wampler, Larry Lyons or Dr. Jerry Summers had an example; ex-"Michigan" Collection. (Image) 8,000.00

Closed or SOLD for $8,000.00
Closing..Oct-25, 12:00 PM
