319 og 181 image#181, 5c Bright blue special printing, without gum as issued, particularly well centered and margined for this, especially when compared to the few other known examples, luxuriously rich color and a strong detailed impression, full complete perforations all around which have not been scissor separated as found on several, a very fine and choice stamp. An incredibly rare stamp of which only nine examples have been certified as genuine by the Philatelic Foundation. There is a tenth example recorded in the New York Public Library collection. The Floyd example is one of the three finest examples, and the finest to appear on the auction market in several years. The last #181 to be sold at auction was in our January 2000 sale of the Larry Lyons collection. His example possesses similarly choice centering, however it did have a small thin spot and faint toning. Despite these flaws, the Lyons example realized $47,500.00, plus the 10% buyer's premium. Obviously, one would expect the Floyd example, being in select quality, to realize well in excess of this amount. A very rare opportunity for the serious collector who wishes to obtain one of the most important rarities in all of United States philately, and certainly one of the most infrequently offered.
