1875 REPRODUCTIONS OF THE 1847 ISSUE
Lot Symbol CatNo. Lot Description CV or Estimate
143 TCbl 3TC4, 4TC4 image#3TC4-4TC4, 5c and 10c Reproductions, "Atlanta" trial color plate proofs, a truly amazing set of set of blocks of eight, complete in all five colors for both values, each with full even margins all around, bright rich colors, a couple of blocks with trivial scissors cuts between stamps at left, an extremely fine and marvelously handsome set of blocks. The rarity of this set of blocks can not be over emphasized. Only one sheet of 50 of each value was printed in 1881 for display at the International Cotton Exhibition in Atlanta. When the sheets were broken up the only one set of blocks of eight were left intact, all being from the same positions in the plates. the rest were cut into two sets of blocks of four, two sets of pairs and the rest in singles. That this Unique Set of Blocks of Eight has remained intact over all these years is not only incredible but it provides a phenomenal opportunity for the specialist or exhibitor. Catalog value is for eight sets of singles and does not reflect the great rarity of these blocks. (Image) $24,000.00+
