642 O 56 imageS.G. #56, 1897 £10 Orange and black Coat of Arms, a very scarce used example with absolutely beautiful centrally struck "Fort-Hill/B.C.A./AP 8 02" squared circle pmk., wonderfully well centered and fresh with bright paper, extremely fine; while this is surprisingly priced at a lesser value than mint these high values are exceptionally elusive with genuine postal cancels as they were more often used as revenues and especially rare in this magnificent quality; 1981 BPA certificate (S.G. #52; £2,500). (Image) $2,500.00

644 og 58e var. image#58e var., 1898 1d Grayish blue and vermilion, type I, imperforate, center omitted, without gum as issued, this is from the second setting which is type II by Stanley Gibbons with vertical frame lines not continuous between stamps, there is no impression whatsoever of the embossed vermilion vignette though there is a trace of extraneous vermilion ink at upper right indicating this was on a sheet where the center was being applied, also a light crayon note at left that appears to be "U/V," perhaps a P.O. notation of the missing center, without control mark, margins to just touching the frames at a couple of points, fine; this variety is only listed as a great rarity in the catalogs in pairs with a normal stamp with center intact; this single stamp is nevertheless an extremely rare error; 1971 RPS certificate as an issued stamp with center omitted (S.G. #55bd var.). (Image) Est. $2,000-3,000

SOLD for $1,300.00

653 nhBP Unitrade 2070a,II imageUnitrade #2070a,ii, 2004 80c Christmas, "printed on the gummed side," the vert. half pane of three from a booklet pane of six printed on the backing paper, complete with cover design printed on the reverse, fresh and very fine; self adhesive stamps were produced by having a laminated sheet of two pieces of paper, one gummed that could be pealed away from the other, the stamp was supposed to be printed and die cut on the gummed paper so a stamp could be pealed away and applied to the envelope with the gum that was on the reverse, the cover of the booklet was printed on the other ungummed side which acted as backing paper for the gummed stamps, when the stamp was printed and die cut on the wrong side the stamps were ungummed and the gum remained on cover portion of the paper; this error occurred on all three values of this Christmas issue and is more frequently found on 49c and $1.40 value, the 80c Santa in a Cadillac is extremely rare with only one booklet pane recorded; 2008 V. G. Greene certificate (listed in Unitrade but unpriced as singles, but unlisted as a booklet pane since the only pane was at least cut in half as this lot attests). (Image) Est. $1,500-2,000
