Forster recommends seeking the help of Gen. Felix Houston, currently in Natchez, Mississippi for more information. Letter has been opened out to display contents resulting in some minor edge wear and soiling becoming more noticeable, condition of postal markings very fine; an interesting piece (A.S.C.C. $400). H Sears, P.M. to Samuel B. Gregory, Acting Master U.S.S. "Western World" reading in part "Your letters were all sent forward to N. York and will no doubt reach their destination without delay as the P.O. Dept. recognize the difficulties under which we labor at this post. It will be better, however, in future to direct all letters as per instructions herewith enclosed - or what is better prepay by stamps." one circular endorsed "Post Office instructions. 1862," a fascinating glimpse into the mechanics of postal communication during Union occupation, very fine.
