PLATE FOUR continued...
Lot Symbol CatNo. Lot Description CV or Estimate
81 O 6 6, 1c Blue, Ty. Ia, position 100L4, large to extra-large margins all around, including showing just a trace of the adjoining stamp at top, deep rich color distinctive to plate 4

Ia, position 100L4, large to extra-large margins all around, including showing just a trace of the adjoining stamp at top, deep rich color distinctive to plate 4 stamps, plus its impression is quite detailed which shows the Ty. Ia design characteristics exceptionally well, neat portion of a town c.d.s., extremely fine.

An incredibly choice and desirable used example of this classic rarity, of which very few still exist in this premium condition. The rarity of Type Ia stamps is due to the fact that only 18 of the 20 positions on the bottom row of plate 4 sheets produced this type, which shows the full ornaments at bottom.

Accompanied by a 1970 PF certificate; ex-Cowitt. (Image)

II stamps (all of the other positions yielded Ty. III or IIIa stamps), incredibly bright and fresh overall, with stunning color and impression, exceptionally large margins all around, tiny scissor cut at bottom entirely between stamps, extremely fine; unpriced by Scott as a pair, and the price for a single of $3,500.00 is presumably for an example with o.g., however we have yet to see an o.g. example from plate 4; we have no doubt this is one of the finest surviving Ty.
