GREECE

884 ogO   Greece Large Hermes Head massive collection/accumulation of over 1,500 stamps housed in a large Lighthouse album, the vast majority are used singles but includes a few mint with o.g. and unused plus a few multiples, the collection includes a good representation of all the printing groups from the 1861 Paris printings to the last 1880’s printings on cream paper, of particular interest are the earlier Athens printings with nearly half the collection being printings prior to the 1868-69 Cleaned Plate issues, the scarce First Athens printings are especially well represented with 39 coarse impressions often showing a strongly shifted decoupage and including twelve 5l Green, the First Athens fine impressions include an impressive 185 stamps including a rare used 1l Deep chocolate with Holcombe certificate, 29 5l Green in various shades with the double-line control figure that cannot be confused with later printings, also the impressions and distinctive control figures of the other values place them in this First Athens printing making this a wonderful reference of these early issues, the Consecutive printings consist of the largest printing group in the collection with over 475 stamps showing the wide range of impressions from early “May” printings to later muddy prints with thickening control figures, we note 29 of the scarce 80l Carmine with vermilion control figures and an additional 47 of the 80l with carmine control figures including a strip of three, later printings from the cleaned plates onward are also well represented, condition varies as would be expected on such a large grouping, the vast majority are fine-very fine appearing or better, this collection was formed over a 25 year period by a student of these issues and is one of the most desirable collections of Large Hermes Heads that we have had the privilege of offering with a total Hellas catalog value in excess of €75,000. HONDURAS

886 ogOc   Honduras control marks exhibition collection and original research study of several hundred mint and used singles, blocks, multiples and even sheets as well as 69 covers and a couple documents, all mounted and eruditely written up on exhibit pages in two binders, being the result of a unique and specialized study of the countermarks, facsimile signatures and other control methods which were put into use in the aftermath of armed revolutions, robberies, fires and other incidents that at some point upset the normal operations of the postal system and that were implemented by the government and postal authorities with the purpose of controlling the circulation of postage stamps, the collection includes the totality of the control marks existing in the Honduran postal history in a 60 year period from 1898 to 1956 and is comprised of "PERMITASE" overprints in use from 1896-1930, "Seal of the Tribunal Superior de Cuentas" control mark of 1896-1944, "Seal of the Administracion de Rentas" in use from 1898-1931, control marks on postage stamps used as fiscals from 1898-1955, control facsimile signatures of 1924, "Black Hand" control handstamps of 1924, "1929 and 1930" handstamped control marks, "T.S. de C." control handstamps of 1930-31, control facsimile signatures of 1932 and control facsimile signatures of 1956, of these ten control markings only two were printed at the National Typography in Tegucigalpa, the rest were applied at different places throughout the country, the collection contains many unique items and this collection is the first time that all the markings have been identified and gathered together within a complete collection, along with the data and facts that propitiated the outcome of each of them.
