Percy Collingwood corner card (he was the proprietor of the Attleboro Stamp Co.), flap unsealed for circular rate, very fine. During the summer and fall of 1909 the Attleboro Stamp Co. employed an affixing machine to stamp the wrapper of its Attleboro Philatelist magazine, as well as small quantities of other mail. The very distinctive perforations were dictated by the requirements of the machine employed, with the notch at bottom center being caused by the machine as it advanced each stamp. While Mr. Collingwood was a stamp dealer, he seems to have created these coils strictly as a labor saving measure, rather than to supply collectors with new varieties. This 1c perforation was used principally to frank wrappers, with full cover usages being extremely rare.One of the great vending and affixing machine cover rarities. Hull Wilson which later defaulted in 1919, unable to sell the stamps at close to face value the bank obtained some kind of rouletting wheel and applied the private "perforations" to these sheets so they could be used or sold as postage to help recoup the losses from the defaulted loan; signed Herman Hearst Jr. and accompanied by 1989 PF certificate; ex-"Villanova" Collection, Agris. Sharpe, the wife of an employee of the Sun Life Assurance Company of Canada, who may have purloined a few for his personal use; William Weiss reports that there are a mere three #482 covers with Wilson roulettes; 1995 APS certificate; ex-Ken Lawrence.
