otherwise very fine for this major rarity. The 1921 10c Meeting of Iturbide#632a, 1921 10c Blue and brown, Center Inverted, used, quite well centered within large margins, fresh colors, neat portion of duplex cancel, couple of small thin spots, otherwise very fine for this major rarity. The 1921 10c Meeting of Iturbide and Guerrero with the center inverted is one of Mexico's greatest rarities, as well as one of the key inverted center rarities of the world, as there are only two copies known (each of which is used). Both copies were found decades ago, each within a mixture of common stamps. In the case of the Cunliffe example, it was discovered by a New York schoolboy sometime in the 1930's. Shortly thereafter it was acquired by a New York stamp dealer who then submitted it for listing in the Scott's catalog. The famous stamp dealer Philip H. Ward, Jr. acquired the stamp on behalf of George Frederick Tyler, whose collection was then sold in 1940 by Mr. Ward. It was purchased in the Tyler auction by Irving I. Ingraham and never appeared at auction again until June 25, 1975 where Mr. Cunliffe purchased it in a Robert A. Siegel sale. The only other example known was sold as part of the famous Mexico collection formed by Erich Koenig, whose collection was sold at auction in May 1995 by Sotheby's (New York). It realized $25,300.00 at that time (including buyer's premium) which is the basis for the valuation found in the Scott catalog. We suspect since that sale was over fourteen years ago the final realization of the Cunliffe example will cause an upward adjustment of the catalog value following the sale. A fabulous world-class rarity offered to the market for the first time in thirty-four years. (Image) $25,000.00
