2959 imageAustrian Lloyd Offices in the Dobrudja 1848 (June): Entire letter from Tulcea to Patras, Greece endorsed "via Cospoli" at lower left, struck on despatch with fine strike of oval framed "AGENZIA DEL LLOYD AUSTRIACO / Tulcia" in blue (Tchilinghirian fig. 836). Circular "Constantinople / Turquie" French P.O. of transit (June 17), reverse with Piraeus, Athens and Patras datestamps (June 10j). Disinfected with two chisel slits and charged "90" lepta due in red crayon. The earliest recorded usage of this rare cancellation (Tchilinghirian "no material recorded from the 1845-1848 period") and very fine. (Image 1) (Image 2) (Image 3)
