30463 image1846 (Dec 7): Prepaid cover and complete contents from Fremantle to Adelaide, South Australia struck with framed manuscript dated "â™› / POST OFFICE / 7-12-46 / GUILDFORD" handstamp in brown and superb framed "â™› / POST OFFICE / GUILDFORD" handstamp alongside. Carried on the "Champion" which left Fremantle on February 18, 1847. Rated '4d.' internal and '6d.' due upon arrival with "G.P.O. / â™› SOUTH AUSTRALIA" circular datestamp (March 13, 1847) of receipt. A marvellously attractive entire of great scarcity.rnrnNote: The addressee's Marshall and Harriet MacDermott arrived in Western Australia on 2 June 1831 aboard the "Sterling", leaving for Adelaide on 9 April 1846 on the "Champion". Reverse with framed Hobart "SHIP LETTER" in black (Sept 18) and mailed back (after application of '8d.' charge in manuscript) to Swan River where charged '4d.' in manuscript for redirection. 30466 image1854: Swan 1 d. black, a horizontal pair, margins shaved to fine and single lithographed 4 d. blue, three margins and with tiny corner scissor cut, used on 4 February 1856 entire letter from Perth to London, all cancelled by mute obliterators in black. Reverse with London arrival cds (Aug 27) and rated '1s.' due to pay in manuscript. The letter was sent to the Marine Brewery in London by Robert Mace Hapgood who arrived in Perth in December 1831 and became a prominent merchant with Mining interests and Shipping Agent. Swan sideways, imperforate, the extraordinary unused block of 100 subjects (10 x 10) from positions 51-60 / 231-240, the multiple with small marginal defect at upper right corner, otherwise with large margins all round and marginal at base of sheet and at right; positions 57, 77, 116, 120, 151, 157, 175, 176, 195, 196, 215 and 216 all showing listed Transfer varieties: position 151 and 156 being subsituted Transfers (the latter taking the place of the Inverted Frame error), with 'Tau' marking under positions 91, 96, 131, 136 and the 'Water Damage' position 120 very clear but with insignificant closed tear. A full listing of the plate varieties is supplied with the lot.
