A rare and most attractive block. Cert. This error was first reported in the "Australian Philatelist" in July 1907 but was not listed by Stanley Gibbons until 1925. Just seven pairs and four blocks are recorded. Rare Gi = £ 2'500. Official 1876/85: 2 s. carmine, wmk. Broad Star, perf. 10½ x 11½-12½, overprinted small 'O.S.', used examples (2), with fine example showing variety "Overprint "O.S." Double", clearly applied with somewhat heavy cancellation - a rare stamp unrecorded in unused condition; together with a used example of variety "No Stop after "S" in O.S", lightly cancelled by cds, this last of fine appearance but with ironed corner crease. Scarce pair. Cert. (Gi O29a) RPSL (1937) Gi = £ 850.rnrnNote: The RPSL 1937 certificate is made out to the Reverend James Mursell (1860-1948), this famous collector was added to the Roll of Distinguished Philatelists in 1946.
