5006 image1898/99: De La Rue Imperforate photographic composite Essay for the 1 r. value, with handpainted coloured flags above the central vignette and with the fancy border similarly handpainted in orange-red, Sultan's chest picked out in Chinese white, on card (90 x 115 mm.) lettered "B" at top and dated "June 16th 98" in ink, signed "Approved Thos. E.C. Remington 20/6/98" at base, being the selected example from the four Essays. A similar Essay is illustrated in "The De La Rue Collection" edited by Frank Walton RDP., on page 6565 and this Essay is illustrated on the front cover of "Zanzibar" published by the East Africa Study Circle published in 2002. Reverse with "Zanzibar / Reg." datestamp (June 8) in black. The Monogam stamps used on First Day of Issue and the provisional is an exceedingly rare stamp on letter. Cert.
