173 c 51 image51: 1¢ orange, faulty when applied and cancelled by cork on partial NEWSPAPER WRAPPER with Parkhill (Toronto) return address advertising handstamp (front only, reinforced around edges), the franking should only have been ½¢ but owing to the shortage produced by philatelic speculation, ½¢ stamps were only available when purchased as part of a complete set, so the post office actually sold the 1¢ value to Publishing Companies for ½¢ for use on large city household delivery periodicals and newspapers between late June until early November, 1897, a VERY RARE 1¢ FRANKING. Ex - Brigham. (Image) Est. C$500

SOLD for C$230.00
Will close during Auction
174 c 51v image51v: 1¢ orange BISECT, paying the AUTHORIZED ½¢ NEWSPAPER & PERIODICALS RATE (allowed/tolerated at some smaller Post Office locations in late 1897 owing to the unavailability of the ½¢ value) and tied by Cascade, BC 6 NO '97 cds to cross-border NEWSPAPER WRAPPER to Fargo, North Dakota, slight faults but appears fine and a VERY RARE GENUINE USAGE. Ex - Brigham. (Image) CV. C$6,000

SOLD for C$2,000.00
Will close during Auction
