Co production practice for die proofs, especially those of multi-coloured stamps, this is the so-called 'muddy-waters' shade (actually oxidization of the fugitive ink used for the background colour), with pencilled manuscript inverted die no 'F139' and additional '1/2' (1 of 2, the second probably being another shade), an exceedingly rare proof and an exceptional SHOWPIECE.
